Experience what’s REAL in yourself

Writer and teacher Susan Lawson believes everyone possesses a true, beautiful, and unique writing voice. And in her workshops, she fosters a fun and supportive environment where both new and experienced writers feel safe allowing this voice out to play.

“Writing is spirit, words, pictures and experience,” she says. “All four have to be present and accounted for, but the first three emerge from the last. Our experiences form the individual path that leads us each to what is real for ourselves.”

The word real derives from Spanish, where the reale was the money minted by the king and, therefore, the coin whose value was backed by the highest authority in the land—what we might call the “genuine article.”

“Your personal experience and your way of telling it are that same sort of coin,” Susan adds, “a ‘royal road of transport,’ if you will. It is what makes you You and, ultimately, sets your writing apart.”
